Ever wondered what you have to do or accomplish to get your face printed on a banknote? Well, this museum in Belgrade will grant you exactly that for free.

The Visitor Centre of the National Bank of Serbia launched as a modern-day educational institution with strong ties to the bank itself.

Situated in the heart of the old city centre, just steps away from the Knez Mihailova retail hub and Kalemegdan Fortress, the building itself is listed as a monument of culture.

It’s Neorenaissance edifice and strikingly beautiful academic style date back to the 19th century, and make for one heck of a first impression as soon as you arrive.

Before entering, give yourself a moment to appreciate the architecture. Take in the artistic value and pure craftsmanship in its design.

Inside you’ll find a large exhibition space, hosting several interactive displays. Don’t forget to bring identification though, for this is an official requirement in order to get in.

Helpful English-speaking staff are on hand to answer any questions. Listen as they explain the astounding story of hyperinflation that gripped the country in the 90’s.

Observe the various currencies, including the now outdated Yugoslav. Catch a glimpse of an actual 500 billion Dinar note.

Lift real gold and silver. And finally, get your picture taken and have your face printed on an old Serbian banknote.

The exhibition may be boutique in size, but this free souvenir alone makes up for it. And indeed, few souvenirs are as unique as this.

But be warned, the museum location is not to be confused with the National Bank of Serbia building at Nemanjina Street.

Though this too is a sight for sore eyes in its exterior, for the Visitor Centre museum follow directions towards Kralja Petra Street.

So again I ask, have you ever wondered what you have to do or accomplish to get your face printed on a banknote?

Well, you can start by visiting Serbia. Belgrade alone offers enough history, culture and charm to keep you well-entertained.

Away from the capital, the country boasts a ripe playground of ancient towns and pristine natural landscapes.

Wander along raw canyons and scenic national parks. Marvel at the beauty of a nation that remains off the beaten track.
