Who are we?

Hi, we’re Christian & Mariam, a couple from the UK who decided to give life on the road together a go back in 2019. Between us, we graduated university, left a job and sold a house to make all this possible. And while Covid did cut our initial adventure in Asia short, we were lucky to find opportunities in the Balkans over the last year. Currently, we are working our way through Central & South America!

How it all began

It all began on a night in Montenegro at the start of 2021. We’d been discussing the idea of a blog, page or platform for quite some time, whilst searching for a way to make the nomadic lifestyle more sustainable.

Over the course of 2020, we both found remote work in the respective fields of Copywriting & Graphic Design. We’d also been keeping track of all our spending, initially just to work out how much we owed each other.

It didn’t take long to see how budgeting smart and becoming a digital nomad could go hand in hand to make travel sustainable. However, we struggled to find a platform that specifically combined these two aspects. So we figured, why not create one?

Our Journey

Raleigh International

We both began a volunteer expedition with Raleigh International in Borneo, which is where we met. Initially just friends, it wasn't until we returned to the UK that we started dating that October.

July 2018

Namzati Proposal

A year into our relationship, we held our official Namzati. This is an Afghan proposal tradition, whereby both families come together in celebration and recognition of the couple. A uniquely-designed ring was blessed and gifted that same evening.

October 2019

Nikkah Ceremony

3 months later, we were married! I guess you could say it was a short-lived engagement, but technically we only did our Nikkah (Islamic marriage) ceremony and hope to celebrate with a wedding at some point in the next few years.

January 12 2020

The adventure begins

Now that all degrees were obtained, houses sold and Nikkahs celebrated, we finally headed off on what was meant to be a year's worth of travel through South East Asia, with a short stop in Greece first to explore Athens and Santorini.

January 16 2020

Disaster strikes

By now, most of the world was in a global lockdown, including Malaysia, which is where we were at the time. We'd just started volunteering on a small island when the country shut down. We remained here for 5 weeks, before sadly deciding to pause the adventure and head back to the UK.

April 2020

Krakow Poland

Our first trip abroad since the pandemic hit. The rules changed while we were out there, so it ended with a 2 week quarantine upon our return home. Still worth it? Hell yeah!

October 2020

The Balkans

We started out in Croatia, where we volunteered for a month at an olive grove. This was followed by cat sitting for 6 weeks for another family, after which we explored Montenegro, Serbia, North Macedonia and Albania over the next 8 months.

November 2020

Home for the summer

Time to get vaccinated! Alongside four months of catchups with family and friends. During this time, we also completed a 2 week camping trip along the south west coast of England.

June 2021

The Americas

And off we go again! This time, to explore two completely new corners of the world. Having recently completed all 8 Central American countries from Mexico down to Panama, we turn our attention south to Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia next.
